Details
Pop’s Purple originally comes from the Belleclare Nursery on Long Island in Plainview, NY. It was part of the famous fig collection of William DiPaolo, an Italian immigrant from the Gulf of Gaeta. DiPaolo brought a world-class collection of figs with him when he started his fig nursery in the US, a legacy that was carried out by his family until the nursery’s closure in the early 2000s. Martha Stewart once visited Belleclare, the hotspot for serious fig collectors and gardeners. Pop’s Purple, also known as BC#17, was part of the prestigious fig collection at Belleclare.
The figs grow to medium size and have good sweetness. Growers value Pop’s Purple for its mid season ripening and high productivity. Figs will ripen in the tree’s first year of growth. The tree can be grown either in a container or directly in the ground as it is a cold hardy variety.

When do we ship cuttings?
Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):
We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.
**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refridgerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.
Rooted Cuttings(Spring):
We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
