Mount Rushmore
Many know that the visages of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln grace Mount Rushmore in the national park of the same name. Gutzon Borglum, who also famously worked on sculpting Stone Mountain in Georgia, executed the monumental carving in the Black Hills regions of the state. Plans for the monument were made from 1925-1925 and the work of art was deemed complete in 1941.
Like this carving that was used to honor important historical figures in our country’s history, flowers can be used to mark special occasions. Many people think of flowers for holidays like Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day, but floral designs can also be used to mark other special moments in life like birthday flowers or christening flowers.
Often proms and graduations are the focal point of teenagers’ high school careers. These special occasions are often marked with prom flowers and graduation flowers such as corsages, boutonnieres, and bouquets. Since these types of arrangements are either worn or carried, consider what the recipient will be wearing so the flowers can coordinate. For corsages, classic white flowers always look beautiful when complimented with a ribbon in the same color as the prom-goer’s outfit. There are many colorful options, too, including ribbons, rhinestones, glitter, and keepsake wristbands. And those pinning boutonnieres to their lapels can also participate in the fun. Kremp Florist offers classic rose boutonnieres, freesia boutonnieres, and other ways to express your style with ribbons, wires, gems, and pins.
Jewel Cave
In 1900, prospectors Frank and Albert Michaud discovered a natural cave with an opening too small for a person to pass through. Seeing an opportunity for explorations, the two widened the opening with dynamite until they could enter. They discovered a cavern lined with calcite crystals, which lead to the name “Jewel Cave.” They wanted to market the cave as a tourist destination, but it was unsuccessful until more work had been done on the site in the 1930s.
To send a flower arrangement reminiscent of Jewel Cave, go for jewel tones like ruby, amethyst, sapphire, and emerald. There are many floral varieties available in these colors such as carnations, roses, delphinium, iris, gerber daisies, and gladiolas. Arrangements in jewel tones makes great anniversary flowers because it is a deep, rich and romantic color palate.
