How can you make roses last longer?

Roses can last longer with proper care and handling.  The 2 most important things to remember are 1- to change the water in the container every other day and 2- cut about a half inch off the bottom of the stems each time you change the water.  The water should be room temperature.  Be sure to wipe out the container to keep it clean before filling it back up with water.  When trimming the stems, use a sharp knife or scissors to ensure the stem has a clear opening at the base for water to travel.  Keep your roses away from any heat source or air-conditioning vent and never sit them in direct sunlight.

Why do some roses bend over at the neck?

Roses can bend over at the neck when they are not getting enough hydration.  This is common even when your roses are sitting in a full vase of water.  Bacteria or particles from the stems in the water can block the bottom of the stems causing a blockage similar to a scab on a wound.  If your roses are bent at the neck, this is not a sign that they are dead.  They just need to be revived.
