The Naval Academy
Annapolis, Maryland is the site of the United States Naval Academy, a prestigious school for students who wish to become officers in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps. The institution dates back to 1845, and women have been admitted to the academy since 1976.
Many Maryland residents will be routing for the Naval Academy’s team during the annual Army versus Navy college football game. You will see plenty of blue and gold, the school’s colors, on that day. A flower arrangement is an excellent gift for a Navy fan, including blue flowers like delphinium or hydrangea. Or let Kremp Florist help you in selecting graduation flowers for your student, with beautiful blue irises and a gold ribbon to symbolize her achievement.
A Baseball Legend
Did you know that baseball great Babe Ruth was born in Baltimore, Maryland? He was born George Herman Ruth, Jr., but a rough beginning led him to eventually be taken under the wing of Baltimore Orioles’ manager Dunn. Fellow players joked that Ruth was Dunn’s “new babe,” and the nickname stuck. In addition to Ruth, Maryland is also home to other players who became famous on the diamond including Cal Ripken, Jr., Billy Ripken, Lefty Grove, Harold Baines, Jimmie Foxx, and others. There must be something in the water!
A baseball fan will always love a flower arrangement in his or her team’s colors. For Baltimore Orioles fans that means lots of orange blooms such as roses, spray roses, alstroemeria, carnations, and Gerber daisies. A black vase or a black ribbon will instantly remind the recipient of his favorite sport.
The Star Spangled Banner
Francis Scott Key wrote the poem “Defence of Fort McHenry” as he watched the Baltimore battle site under siege during the war of 1812. The poem was later set to words, and the Star Spangled Banner became the United State’s official national anthem on March 3, 1931.
There are many occasions on which to send a patriotic flower arrangement including Memorial Day, Labor Day, or the Fourth of July. These designs featuring an assortment of red, white, and blue flowers have a classic look that shows pride in your country. Red, white, and blue can be an appropriate color scheme for a veteran’s funeral flowers. The blooms will remind those in attendance of his or her service.
