The Naval Academy

Annapolis, Maryland is the site of the United States Naval Academy, a prestigious school for students who wish to become officers in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps. The institution dates back to 1845, and women have been admitted to the academy since 1976.

He was born George Herman Ruth, Jr., but a rough beginning led him to eventually be taken under the wing of Baltimore Orioles’ manager Dunn. Fellow players joked that Ruth was Dunn’s “new babe,” and the nickname stuck. In addition to Ruth, Maryland is also home to other players who became famous on the diamond including Cal Ripken, Jr., Billy Ripken, Lefty Grove, Harold Baines, Jimmie Foxx, and others. There must be something in the water!
