Tree Planter’s State
Nebraska earned this moniker in 1895 when homesteaders were planting hundreds on trees under the Timber Culture Act. The act entitled these settlers to 160 acres of land if they would plant 40 acres of trees and tend them for 10 years. The diligent farmers transformed what was once called “America’s desert” into an important farming region of the country.
To symbolize this time in Nebraska’s history, consider sending a friend a dishgarden of beautiful green plants. Dishgardens are suitable for a life indoors, and are composed of a collection of green and blooming plants like spathiphyllum, pathos, peperomia, philodendron, ivy, kalanchoe, and African violets. Recipients will have the pleasure of watching the plants transform as they grow. Care and maintenance on these types of the plants is usually simple watering, so even those without a green thumb will have success. Plants are known to purify the air in a home, so this is the perfect gift to give to the person who prefers natural remedies to chemical cleaners.
The Cornhusker State
While the trees planted by early Nebraskans endure, the Timber Culture Act did not. So, the state nickname was changed to the Cornhusker State in 1945 since the area was also known for the cornhusking that was done by hand before the invention of modern machinery.
The Cornhuskers was already the name of the University of Nebraska athletic teams, so it was a great fit for the state. For Cornhuskers fans, send a scarlet and cream arrangement including such flowers as roses, gerber daisies, daisy pompons, alstroemeria, lilies, hypericum berries, and hydrangeas. This red and white design will make a great graduation gift or utilize the flowers as centerpieces for a game-day party.
The Home of SPAM
You may have already known some of Nebraska’s nicknames, but a little known fact is that SPAM is produced in the town of Fremont. This canned meat was a necessary source of non-perishable protein for troops in World War II, but it is also an iconic part of our culture as seen in Monty Python sketches.
Everyone knows that SPAM comes in a can, but Kremp Florist can help you choose a gift that is anything but “canned.” For a more unique flower arrangement, consider incorporating the floral designer’s creativity. A sender could request a certain color for example, and leave the rest up to the pros. Or, ask for more uncommon flowers like tropical flowers or the freshest selection in stock that day. That way, your gift will turn out unlike any other arrangement, as unique as the loved one who will receive it. Contact Kremp Florist today to schedule a special flower delivery in Nebraska.
