Details
Desert King is a reliable variety that produces both a breba and main crop of figs. It can ripen without the high heat needed for many other varieties, and has thrived in the mild coastal climates and high elevations of the Pacific Northwestern US.
Desert King became popular in California back in the 1930s, although it is likely that the variety originally comes from Italy. In the 1930s, Sisto Pedrini of the Western Evergreen Company began growing Desert King in Los Altos and San Francisco, California. The fruits became so popular that the King Fig Plantation company began to produce hundreds of copies of the trees to sell to its fans.

When do we ship cuttings?
Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):
We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.
**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.
Rooted Cuttings(Spring):
We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
