The founding of the United States saw important events take place throughout the thirteen colonies. From Boston to the north to the Virginia colonies to the south, each played a role in our freedom from the British. But, one of the most important and historic places that was crucial to the revolution effort was Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Philadelphia was founded by William Penn in 1682, which was established as the capital and financial center of the Pennsylvania Colony. It became a critical area since it was close to the geographic center of the thirteen colonies. As the center it became a place that was used in planning and executing the American Revolution.
The founding fathers of the new nation used Philadelphia as a meeting place and was the location of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Philadelphia was also the place where the Continental Congress met to draw up the constitution. Philadelphia was also the location of the Liberty Bell and was the place where it was preserved. The city and surrounding area was also the sight of many Revolutionary War battles.
Today, Philadelphia is the place where many historic locations can still be seen. Places such as Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed, and the Liberty Bell are visible to all visitors. Still one of the largest and most modern cities in the United States, Philadelphia has the historic charm that anyone can visit and experience the past.
