Genovese Nero AF Fig
The Genovese Nero AF fig originally came from Northern Italy’s Genoa region. More recently, however, avid Canadian fig grower, Adriano, brought it to North America. In fact, Adriano’s initials (AF) are included in the fig’s name to signify the distinct variety. Today, this fig is popular amongst gardeners for its vigorous growth, good resistance to splitting during rainy periods, and large, delicious figs.

You will recognize Genovese Nero AF by its purple skin and round shape. The trees produce large figs, and mainly 3-lobed leaves with some 5- and single-lobed leaves. Although the fruits are large, the leaves are smaller in size. Figs will ripen mid-season, depending on climate.
Bite into a Genovese Nero AF fig and you will be met with a moderately sweet berry flavor. However, the longer the fig is left to ripen on the tree, the sweeter and more syrupy it will become. They are chewy, with a thicker skin and no seed crunch. Honey often pools around the eye of this fig. When looking at a cross section of Genovese Nero AF, you will note that the exterior pulp is a light amber color that deepens to a bright red near the center.

When do we ship cuttings?
Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):
We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.
**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refridgerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.
Rooted Cuttings(Spring):
We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
