Mattepinta comes from Dr. Paolo’s collection at the famed Pomona Gardens. The gardens are situated in Cisternino Italy, where over 1000 ancient fruit trees are preserved in this conservatory collection. The trees are grown using organic gardening practices and visitors tour the grounds in accordance with low impact tourism guidelines. Mattepinta’s roots can be traced back to the early 1900s--now that’s a taste of history!
Mattepinta figs have a thick skin that is mostly green with some red blushing near the eye. The figs feature a round shape and weigh about 50-60 grams. Their small eyes and hardy skin make Mattepinta easy to transport and resistant to bruising. Inside you will find a juicy, sweet, red pulp. Each fig contains lots of pulp and visible seeds. The flavor is semi-sweet with an acidic bite, making it a favorite of Cisternino locals.

When do we ship cuttings?
Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):
We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.
**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refridgerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.
Rooted Cuttings(Spring):
We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
