The fig variety Laradek Brown Turkey is named for its founder and promoter, fig-grower Laradek of the Czech Republic. It is also sometimes spelled La Radek. This variety’s claim to fame is its impressive cold hardiness. While most figs cannot withstand extremely cold temperatures, it is rumored that Laradek’s mother tree has survived-27°C. The mother tree is planted against the foundation of a house and therefore reaps of the benefits of the heated structure and some insulation from extreme weather. While some people disagree on the actual temperatrures that this variety will withstand, it is well known that it is successful in cold climates andt herefore is popular among northern fig enthusiasts!

***Please be sure to read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing cuttings***
When do we ship cuttings?
Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):
We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.
**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refridgerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.
Rooted Cuttings(Spring):
We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
