Izmir Fig
Izmir is a Turkish fig variety named for the third most populous city in that country. Its Eastern European roots led to engineer agronomist, Kiril Donov, taking interest in this variety. Izmir has been difficult to come by in the United States, as Donov originally only grew it in his Bulgarian nursery at the Botanical Garden-Plovdiv. Now, however, this variety has made it's way to the US and cuttings are available for shipping from Kremp Florist.

Izmir sets two crops annually. It grows very vigorously, and can reach great heights while showing a variety of leaf shapes within the same tree. It is cold hardy, and is a relatively early ripening fig. Izmir has been described as tender, juicy, and sweet, with a well-balanced taste. The round fig with greenish-purple skin gives way to a dark red interior. Izmir’s fruit has a thick, jammy consistency with lots of honey near the eye. The soft skin is good for eating and there is no need for peeling. Izmir will leave you with a unique acidic kick that will keep this fig in your memory.

When do we ship cuttings?
Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):
We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.
**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refridgerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.
Rooted Cuttings(Spring):
We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
