Grise de St Jean Fig
Grise de St. Jean is a French fig variety that originally came from the collection of Monsieur Baud. The variety is classified as a gray (grise) fig because the mix of yellow, purple, and green colors on the exterior can combine to give it a hazy appearance. There is slight color variation from fig to fig, with some looking more purple or yellow than others. The thin skin covers the elongated body of the fig, and you can find Grise de St. Jean growing on trees with predominately 5-lobed leaves.

Grise de St. Jean is a biferous variety, meaning it produces two crops annually: a breba and a main crop. The breba crop has gotten rave reviews, especially from growers in colder climates who have trouble getting main crop figs to ripen. The breba crop will ripen in the early summer heat, so you can be assured that you will taste some of these delicious figs even if you have to start wearing your jacket again earlier in the year than you had hoped. The main crop ripens in late August, for those lucky enough to enjoy the warmer climate conducive to fig growing.
Inside, Grise de St. Jean is a yellow and light red pulp that tends to have a pool of honey in the center. The large fruits usually weigh over 40 grams, and have a sweet and juicy flavor with little to no acidity. Some connoisseurs have even detected notes of lychee and maple flavor in this variety.

When do we ship cuttings?
Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):
We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.
**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refridgerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.
Rooted Cuttings(Spring):
We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
